“[…] I have read your manuscript about Abyssinia with much interest. I am afraid it is not suitable for The Criterion and therefore I am returning it to you quickly […]. One reason is that it is only incidentally about Abyssinia, and I think really that you ought to reshape it yourself into several different articles. One might be about the decadence of Britain, and another about the rise oh the Italian nation […]”.
