Olio su tela. cm 30x46. Al verso della tela, in grafia coeva: "Crossing the Magra / The Carrara Mountains in the distance of C. Stanfield in possession of Jacob Bell Esq.re (segue firma illeggibile) June 1847".  La scritta antica attribuisce l'opera, crediamo con ragione, a C. F. Stanfield, grande pittore inglese di marine, che dipinse anche numerosi paesaggi frutto dei suoi viaggi in Italia, Francia, Spagna, Olanda e Germania. Tra i suoi dipinti più noti e rimarchevoli è French Troops (1796) fording the Margra - Sarzana and the Carrara Mountains in the distance del 1847 (oggi alla York City Art Gallery) ed esposto nello stesso anno con successo alla Royal Academy di Londra (cfr. recensione in "The Art-Union Montly Journal", n. 108, giugno 1847, p. 187, n. 74) che ha la stessa ambientazione, ripresa evidentemente dal vero, del presente dipinto e la stessa data di esecuzione riportata sul retro.



In cornice dorata coeva. cm 42x57.
