D'Annunzio’s telegram sent to the opera singer Gabriella Besanzoni.
Dated June the twenty-sixth (twenties), Rome.
The document is framed in thin wood (with some defects) and protected by glass. Some traces of moisture. mm 220x265.
Miss Besanzioni, acclaimed mezzo-soprano, was an interpreter of the 'Francesca da Rimini' opera by Zandonai, derived from the homonymous tragedy by D’Annunzio. The poet, evidently aware of a very regrettable misunderstanding with the singer, apologizes using a famous verse of Gluck’s Orpheus: that I will do without Eurydice. Just as Orpheus despaires for the loss of Eurydice, but then he finds it with joy, the Vate makes it seem to be desperate for the gaffe with lady Besanzoni, but consoled by the promise of a next visit to the Vittoriale.
